Image and Concept:
Beautiful Language and True Language
The activity of the writer is realised on the level of an utterance, which is empty and purely formal. Discourse implies the absence of its object, and inhabits the space vacated by the banishment of what is spoken. The order of concepts is objectively constitutive, and defines an autonomous level of reality governed by specific laws. The literary discourse assembles images rather than concepts, allowing it to be an autonomous entity. It mimics theoretical discourse, but also mimics the everyday language which is the language of ideology.
This parody quality strips it of its spontaneity and makes it a secondary work. Through the diverse modes of their presence, the different elements conflict more than they unite, and the finished literary work reveals the gaps in ideology. Literature is the mythology of its own myths, without need of a soothsayer to uncover its secrets.
