Racism
in Movies Industry
Racism in the British
music industry is "serious, upfront and personal", says the author of
a new report about the experiences of black musicians. (Savage) .
A 2021 report found racist abuse and racial inequality across the industry. The
UK Music Industry Anti-Racism Code aims to protect and represent Black and
ethnically diverse musicians and workers (Bugel) .
A vast majority - 63%- of Black music creators in the UK have faced
racism and 71% experienced racial micro aggressions despite the
industry’s attempts at diversification (McFarlane) . Music in the U.S.
has come to evolve from the direct influence of Black culture; from the
introduction of rock to the smooth jazz that plays in your favorite coffee
shop, Black culture has influenced it all. However, despite the major
contributions by Black people to many of what we know today as “the classics”
and household favorite songs, since 1957 only 10 Black artists have won a
Grammy for the prestigious and highly sought after album of the year award. The
extent to which Black musicians are undervalued and under-appreciated goes even
further tha this specific award show. (Farrier) .
A major survey has revealed that 63% of Black musicians in the UK music
industry have experienced racism. A further 71% have experienced racial
micro-aggressions. (Hall) . In my experience
that many racism in music industry. For example the salary of black skin is
cheap than white skin. There are racism in movies industry, author hope this
paper useful.
