iving in a tropical country with abundant
sunlight will make us prone to sunburn, a skin damage caused by ultraviolet
rays. Sunburn leaves your skin red, swollen or worse,
blistered. However, there are ways to treat it. Check out the following tips. dn
1. If your skin gets
sunburned, immediately cool down the affected area. You can apply a cold
compress or splash cool water on your skin. But don’t dive into open water such
as a pool or sea to cool off your skin because it will worsen the damage.
Taking a cool bath is better. Don’t scrub your skin too hard as it’s still
sensitive from the burn, Don’t forget to gently wipe your skin with a soft
towel. Shaving while your skin is still affected by sunburn is also a big no
no.
2.
After your skin has
cooled, apply moisturizer. Avoid a moisturizer which contains petroleum,
benzocaine, or lidocaine because those ingredients will further irritate your
skin. Choose a moisturizer with aloe vera as the main ingredient. It will cool
your skin faster.
3.
Getting sunburned makes
your skin dry. Besides that, it also dries out your body. Sip more water to
avoid dehydration
4.
Cover your burned skin
with loose clothing, don’t wear anything tight. Loose clothing won’t scratch
your skin. It protects your skin from damaging sunrays.
5.
If the sunburn hurts
really bad, consult a doctor for medication to reduce the swelling, redness, or
any other discomfort.
6.
Sunburn can cause
blisters on your skin. Don’t pick at the blisters or they will get infected.
Leave them alone until the skin heals by itself.
7.
Besides swelling, sunburn
can cause dizziness. Take a rest and stay out of the sun until your sunburn heals
perfectly.
8.
To avoid getting sunburn,
remember these:
1. Apply sunscreen on your skin.
2. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
3. Wear a widebrimmed hat to protect your head from sunrise.
